I feel this topic could be useful for both veteran and new members of the forum. This topic will detail the important details of a trade thread. You may use whatever information you want from this thread in your own, but using the important information from this thread in yours can help generate more responses and trades for you.
Title of your Thread:
Your name should be at the front of the topic title. It identifies easily for you and others whose topic it is. After that, the rest of the title is on you.
Opening Portion of your Thread:
If you live outside the USA, it's VERY strongly recommended you note this immediately at the top of your thread. Location can make a difference for some people, so keep this in mind.
Otherwise, generally, you want to place your WANTS first. While not customary, most traders list what they want at the very top. It's not required to do this, but it doesn't hurt either. Wouldn't you rather people see what it is you're looking for before they see what you have?
Place your WANTS in set order. It makes life much easier for everyone. And note any important details (specific edition, foil, SR or DR, etc). Some examples:
You might be interested in multiple copies of a card. Display the text as such for most ease:
Doing things like this ensures your Wants are properly displayed, and makes people reading your WANTS much easier, which increases the chances of you attaining a trade/buy/sell.
Next, you'll want to list out your HAVES. This follows in the same fashion as above. For example:
Be detailed. Especially when you get to Gateway. List out the number of copies, the card number, the name of the card, whether it is foil or not and the type of foil, and the number of copies of 1/e and/or Unlim you have of it.
This is time consuming, but if you want the most successful thread, you'll dump the time into it.
Those are the basics of a trade thread. Additional information you can include if you wish:
-Links to other sites with lists of cards you need from other card games (or list those in your thread too, but it might get too long...).
-Link to your Ebay page.
-How you ship your cards and/or when you ship cards.
-Whether you accept Paypal or not.
Things not to include in your trade thread:
-Your Paypal address.
-Any personally identifiable information about yourself and/or others.
-Any cards that aren't for trade/you don't own (understandable if your list is outdated, but try to keep it up to date).
Should you have an issue and the trader/seller is not responding to you after you sent, notify me. A PM is what is best. Of course, this is when you really think there is a major issue. While I cannot get you your cards back, I can take care of the trader by banning them from the trading forum (or worse). I have only had to step in once with a trade, and here's hoping I don't ever have to again
If there's anything else you feel should be included here, feel free to mention so
Happy Trading!
FYI: The Checklists page on the Database is here if you need it
